Since the IRCC takes 6 months to review your submission, make sure your IELTS test results are valid for the entire period. You must have a CLB 7 language proficiency, which is a minimum of 6.0 in each portion of the IELTS, to apply for permanent residency by Express Entry.

There are different language proficiency requirements for each programme. Listening, reading, writing, and speaking are the four subcategories used to evaluate your language skills. CLB (Canadian Language Benchmark) Level determines how many points you gain.

IELTS for Canada PR Tips and Tricks

The following are some points to help you improve your IELTS score in each category:

Listening: Before beginning to listen, the candidate should practise reading comprehension and carefully read the questions. There are also spoken clues in the form of words and phrases that will guide the candidate to the correct answer.

Writing: Candidates must express themselves as clearly as possible. Words or phrases that will not be used in the final word count must not be copied. Use of descriptive words to add a personal touch to the essay.

Speaking: The best way to prepare for the speaking category is to speak English as much as possible and have someone listen to you. In this segment, there are no right or wrong answers, so the candidate should take their time to be as clear as possible.

Reading: The only recommendation for this category is to learn. Reading skillfully helps the candidate to pick up on key terms, ideas, and context.

Average time it takes to receive IELTS results

The Test Report Form (TRF), a paper copy of your IELTS test score, will be mailed to you 13 days after the test date for a paper-based test and 3 to 5 days after an online test.

Without IELTS, you can apply for a Permanent Resident Visa in Canada.

As previously stated, an IELTS exam is required in order to transfer to Canada. However, unlike the express entry program, there is another immigration program that allows an applicant with a low IELTS score to apply for a Canada PR visa.

Every province in Canada (except Quebec) has a Provincial Nominee Program (immigration program) that enables them to nominate skilled immigrants for permanent residence in their province (PNPs).

These PNPs have their own requirements, which are dependent on local labour market demands. Some of the PNPs have low IELTS score requirements. The following are some of the PNPs:

  1. Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP): 4.5 Minimum IELTS score
  2. Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP): 4.5 Minimum IELTS score
  3. Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP): 4.5 Minimum IELTS score
  4. AIPP (Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program): It also has a low IELTS score requirement.

Candidates applying for a PR visa in Canada via AIPP must have a CLB rating of 4 or an IELTS score of 4.5, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.0 in Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, respectively.
